New Faculty Member: Nathan Porterfield

Starting in the Spring of 2018, Tarleton will be welcoming it’s newest faculty member teaching drawing, design, and art appreciation, Nathan Porterfield. The following was taken from his artist profile on the Texas Artists Coalition home page.

Nathan Porterfield is a Texas Artists Coalition member living and working from Arlington, TX.

1. Where do you find inspiration and what motivates you to keep going?

I am inspired by materials, by misfits, by the absurd, by our history of resistance to oppression and ironic need to inflict it. Making art has always been a compulsion for me.  It is an outlet, a network, a voice, and an avenue for me to explore the things I can’t necessarily comprehend.

2. What is one thing you want people to know about you?

That I love to be around, interact with, and learn from others.

3.What role does the artist have in society?

It is important for artists to hold accountable everything that oppresses, confounds, and grieves the human spirit, while celebrating all that enlivens, enriches, and nourishes us.
